Description

Cabo San Lucas was for hundreds of years, the only community here at the tip fo the Baja California Peninsula. With its natural fresh water oasis flowing into palm-lined lagoons at the oceans edge, the area supported Indian communities and hundreds of species of wildlife for thousands of years before colonization by the Spanish. During the pre-colonial period it was a watering and provisioning stop for Spanish galleons. The heavy ships laden with treasure, silks and spices from the east were the ‘big game fish' then for pirates like Sir Francis Drake who came looking for ‘donations' to his favorite charity (himself) and his majesty the “Virgin” Queen Elizabeth. Cabo San Lucas was once a tranquil fishing village and, in times long ago, a hangout for pirates. Although no longer the fishing village of old, and not many of the old pirates are seen around town any more, the magic of Cabo remains. Cabo has come of age. Located at the southernmost tip of the magnificent Baja peninsula, Cabo is the remote playground reserved solely for private yacht owners. They flocked here to be near "Marlin Alley", as the waters around Cabo have often been described. The name is well deserved, as Cabo is the undisputed billfish capital of the world.

Also home to the village of San Jose del Cabo, the peninsula exhibits the best of traditional Mexico with its blocks of unhurried streets and graceful tree covered sidewalks, its scores of shops, galleries, fine restaurants, boutiques and total absence of popular franchises. San Jose del Cabo was finally settled in 1730 with a Jesuit mission and fort to help stabilize the region against these marauders.

Up until twenty years ago Cabo was just a few farmhouses, some scrawny cattle roaming the dirt roads and a fish cannery. Today, Cabo remains a place where time goes by slowly and still retains the personality of old Baja, but with excellent resorts, dining, entertainment, activities, and shopping.

Local Weather

Cabo has been blessed with what many describe as the perfect climate. Average year-round temperature is 78 degrees, it is a little cooler in the winter and a bit warmer in the summer. Those who live in the desert southwest will consider it cool. Those from the northwest or mountain states will consider it hot. If your from the east or south you will welcome the dry heat. We do get some storms during the summer. The tropical storms and hurricanes hardly ever hit us directly (they do, but not very often).
