Resort Information
Captain Oliver's is a long-time tradition on Oyster Pond at the eastern end of St. Martin/St. Maarten. Pink bungalows, with a bit of gingerbread-trim, are set in a labyrinth and connected by boardwalks. High on a hill, they command panoramic views, and from the large terraces you can gaze over St. Barts. The claim to fame of this unique property is you can sleep in France and dine in Holland.
Founded by Oliver Lange, a former Parisian chef who moved to the islands in the 1980s, the hotel is a cluster of bungalows on the pond ensconced in a marina-type atmosphere. For nautical types, there will be no lack of activity here with the headquarters for the Moorings yacht charters on St. Martin. From here, you can take day trips to sail, scuba dive, snorkel or fish. Dawn beach is only a short boat ride away provided by the resort, and there's a large freshwater pool on the property. Caribbean style bungalows, tropical flora and palm trees entwine harmoniously in this seaside setting. Uncommon features, such as the unique location on the French/Dutch border, a mini-zoo, a turtle aquarium and a glass-sided swimming pool lend allure to this captivating hideaway. The hotel is charming and homey, and there's plenty to delight the senses like a small zoo that includes monkeys, parrots and crocodiles.
Dining:
Captain Oliver's - Open-air restaurant situated over Dutch waters. The chef places emphasis on fresh seafood featuring both French and Creole cuisine. While savouring meals, you can admire the native marine life through the glass floor, watch the swimmers in the "people aquarium" or enjoy the views of the ocean and marina. Entertainment is featured most nights.
Dinghy Dock- Serving casual fare for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Located on the dock.
Bounty- A Minimarket offering snacks for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
*Daily buffet breakfast is included with all reservations.
There's also a poolside beachbar and several other restaurants in the Oyster Pond area now, but it's still quiet--and still the most exclusive area on the Dutch side of the island.
This hotel/resort/marina is situated on Oyster Pond lagoon and has the unique distinction of being the only hotel in the world that is "partially on French soil, and partially over Dutch waters. There is an "International Bridge" that marks the special location.
