Set on four acres at the very tip of the Yucatan Peninsula; near the ancient Mayan city of Tulum on Punta Cancun, the Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa (formerly Camino Real Cancun) is among the island's most appealing places to stay.

The architecture of Ricardo Legorreta, contemporary and sleek, with angles is inspired by Mayan architecture, was designed to offer incredible views of the sunset and sunrise from your private balcony. The resort consists of two wings: a long, five-story structure with a sloping pyramid face and a 17-floor tower of overlapping, upright rectangles. Inside, instead of the usual slick-marble lobby floor, Legorreta employed roughly cut charcoal-gray marble paving stones for texture and threw magenta rugs here and there. In addition to sensory stimulation, the resort offers a full range of facilities and services. Among them are a European-style health-and-beauty spa with men's and women's sides and a complimentary fitness center; a 24-hour business center; a shopping arcade; children's activity programs during high seasons; archeological excursions; and a nightclub, Azucar, where salsa and other Latin beats drive all-night dancing. Like all major Cancun hotels, the resort has a water-purification system.

The resort offers guests a freshwater pool, private saltwater lagoon with sea turtles and tropical fish, private beach, sailing pier and water-sports center. There is also a lighted tennis court, beach volleyball, boutiques, gift shops, barber and beauty shops, state-of-the-art fitness center with steam bath, laundry and room service, in-room safe-deposit boxes, baby-sitting, medical service, 24-hour room service, and massages.

Dining:

Poloma Bonita- Formerly the Maria Bonita, offers a tempting menu of authentic Mexican specialties accompanied by live entertainment in an authentic Mexican atmosphere. This restaurant is no longer partof the all-inclusive package since all restaurants are operational.
World Cafe- Offers a delicious breakfast buffet and an International menu for Lunch and Dinner.
Himitsu- Located on the beach, Panasian specialities with a beautiful view of the lighthouse and the Caribbean Sea. Open for Dinner only.
Oceana- Serves fresh fish and seafood prepared on a grill, accompanied by beautiful seaside views. Reservations required.
Seaside Grill- Offers light snacks and grilled specialties, as well as Caribbean-style cocktails, served in the beach terrace area.
Barracuda- Has tropical cocktails on the beach or under the shade of a thatched palapa.
Azucar Bar- A great place to dance until dawn to live salsa, merengue and other Caribbean rhythms.
Sugar Reef- Come and enjoy cocktails on the beach on Isla Mujeres, with a beautiful view of the lighthouse on Punta Cancun.
Rendez-vouz Bar- A great atmosphere with live music and original drinks.
