Answer#1: We left after Hurricane Ivan and people tell me
that it has changed a lot since then. It used to
be a blissful place to live in, with plenty of
interesting things going on all the time even if
you weren't earning a great deal of money. It was
efficient without being hectic. People were
relaxed and friendly (there's no reason to suppose
that this has changed!) There was no racism to
speak of and you would be made welcome. Cultural
events were open to all and some of these were
most interesting. Accommodation is expensive and
so are food and utilities (more so than when we
lived there) and you will almost certainly have to
have a car. There are many possibilities for
travelling to nearby countries economically and
special flights are laid on over bank holidays.
The regular flights to Honduras meant that one was
able to travel in Latin America without being
obliged to pass through the USA. Regular Jamaican
flights made it possible to visit other Caribbean
islands easily. Cuba was within very easy reach
and we went there several times. It was a great
place to be when I was there, but I left three
years ago! Read the local paper on line and see
what you make of things. http://www.caymannetnews.com/
