Question: Please help...looking for a Caribbean destination where $ will go a long way.......?
Question Description:
Trying to find a nice island/country to visit in
August with my 14 year old son. We've done Jamaica
several times...love it but looking for something
new. We did Belize last summer..loved it! Looking
into Puerto Rico but wondering if too Americanized
and if my dollar will go a long way there. We
don't do resorts or big hotels due to the price.
Looking for some jammin reggae, roots and culture,
friendly locals, little cabanas on the beach for
little $, adventure, snorkeling, ect..... Looking
to stay a few weeks and spending as little as
possible for clean/safe accomodations so we can
strech our visit out. Also, we like to travel
around the country and stay in a few different
places. Please Help! Thanks!

Answer#1: Antigua is GREAT and if you loved Jamaica and
Belize then be prepared to be totally satisfied in
Antigua. If you visit in early August (the first
week) that is the time of our annual Carnival
Celebration. We have festitivies to celebrate our
freedom from slavery. To back up what I'm proposing
go to http://www.adventureantigua.com/......
and http://www.antiguanice.comfor info on
our carnival celebrations go here http://www.antiguacarnival.com/...
Answer#2: Try the Dominican Republic. You can stay East in
the Bavaro/Punta Cana area (this area has some of
the most beautiful beaches), South in the Juan
Dolio/Boca Chica area(which is closest to the
capital, but the beaches aren't as nice). Or,
visit the capital, Santo Domingo (there are no
beaches in the capital but alot of historical
places to visit). North in Puerto Plata, Sosua
and Cabarete area (famous for wind surfing) Rio
San Juan, Cabrera (the nicest beaches of the area
are in Cabrera I think) and surrounding mountains
and scenery are gorgeous. Samana is gorgeous, but
still a little hard to get to at the moment.
Also the mountain area of Jarabacoa and Costanza,
where you can try hiking and even white rafting.
There is so much to do in this country and there
are plenty of All Inclusive resorts all over the
island and very affordable options. The music
(Merengue) is very fun and the people are really
friendly.
Answer#3: Check out Costa Rica http://costarica.comgood
