Question Description:
I would like to visit the Virgin Islands but need
advice on where to stay (we are middle-aged but
not fancy or stuffy) and when to travel there.
Also, what is there to do and what should we avoid

Answer#1: It depends. If you are a U.S. citizen and traveling
to the United States Virgin Islands (St. Croix,
St. John, St. Thomas, and Water Island), then you
do not need a passport. However, if you are
traveling to the British Virgin Islands (Tortola,
Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke), U.S.
citizens need a valid U.S. passport or other proof
of U.S. citizenship (original or certified birth
certificate, Certificate of Naturalization or
Certificate of Citizenship as well as photo
identification), onward or return tickets, and
sufficient funds for your stay.I've never been, so
I can't tell you what to do or where to go. I
just know what it takes to get there.
Answer#2: the passport question comes up all the
time......for American citizens you do not now nor
will you ever need a passport as the UNITED STATES
Virgin Islands are part of the UNITED STATES and
traveling from Miami to St Thomas is no different
than traveling from Boston to Martha's
Vineyard. The link is www.travel.state.gov. Read it
completely down to the part that covers the
Virgins, PR, Guam, American Samoa......Not fancy
or stuffy would be Bolongo Bay Beach Resort...Do?
Water Sports, sailing, swimming snorkeling diving
deep sea fishing capital of the world; beaching ,
great shopping as we are a"duty free"
port......just like anywhere there are areas you
should not go...they are pretty obvious as you
drive thru them, so DON'T STOP!..the tourist
centered areas and he hotels are safe as anywhere
and better than most other Caribbean
Islands.....Come on down!
Answer#3: Hurrican season is from June till November!Usually
early summer june july aug there isn't a problem.
It's only after the ocean water has warmed up alot
hurricanes and such start to form. And YES you do
need a passport!!!If you leave the USA at all you
need it to get back in!!
