Question #1: What is it like to work in the Cayman Islands?
My friend and I are thinking about working in the
Cayman Islands and would like an insider's
perspective about the working, living, culture and
social aspects of the island.
Answer: We left after Hurricane Ivan and people tell me
that it has changed a lot since then. It used to
be a blissful place to live in, with plenty of
interesting things going on all the time even if
you weren't earning a great deal of money. It was
efficient without being hectic. People were
relaxed and friendly (there's no reason to suppose
that this has changed!) There was no racism to
speak of and you would be made welcome. Cultural
events were open to all and some of these were
most interesting. Accommodation is expensive and
so are food and utilities (more so than when we
lived there) and you will almost certainly have to
have a car. There are many possibilities for
travelling to nearby countries economically and
special flights are laid on over bank holidays.
The regular flights to Honduras meant that one was
able to travel in Latin America without being
obliged to pass through the USA. Regular Jamaican
flights made it possible to visit other Caribbean
islands easily. Cuba was within very easy reach
and we went there several times. It was a great
place to be when I was there, but I left three
years ago! Read the local paper on line and see
what you make of things. http://www.caymannetnews.com/

Answer: Hello! There are two phone companies in the Cayman
Islands, one is digicel and the other one Cable

information about which phone you can use. Also
check with your local company if both your phones
are unblocked to change the network. Hope this
information is useful!

Question #6: How to get the job quickly in the Cayman Islands?
I lived in Thailand and have to move to the Cayman
Islands in Dec,07 with my husband,he will study
there. I worked in hotel industry for 5 years and
apply the job with several hotel in the Cayman
Islands and the recruitment company. Now is only 5
months left, it no reply from them at all. I
desperate to get a work permit before move there.
Any idea? Thanks so much in advance. My husband
will be a student of St.Matthew U. for 18 months
in Seven Mile Beach. My husband will be a student
of St.Matthew U. for 18 months in Seven Mile
Beach.Dear Cayman_tac,Thanks for your reply, I
went there in March this year and got the
applications paper from all hotels around 7 miles
beach to fill in, I sent it back to them via DHL
but no reply at all. Is it possible that no one
work in the hotel now cos still in hurricane
season? I just want to try my best before we go
there, if I can get the job before it would be
GREAT! Are you work there now? Thanks, Fon
Answer: I'm sorry but I don't know of an EASY way to get a
job here unless you are already here. You could
come in on a tourist visa (30 days max. & you
are prohibited from working) but while you are
here you can look in the papers for jobs and bring
your resume personally. Also, there are MANY
hospitality administration jobs available in the
Seven Mile Beach area. Just ask around. All you
would have to do is leave the country before your
30 days expire and fly back in to get another. One
big drawback is that once your work permit
application is put in with Immigration, you have
to be out of the country until it is approved. (
usually around 3 weeks )I hope this helps.Good
luck!

Question #8: Going To Cayman Islands for Honeymoon, Ritz Carlton hotel with garden view or Hyatt Regency Beachview Suite?
Any comments and hopefully someone here has been
there.
Answer: My parents went to Grand Cayman for their 25th
wedding anniversary 13 years ago. They brought
home the most amazing pix. If I were you, I would
definately take the ocean view hotel. You will
never see water so clear and aqua blue as the
Cayman islands. You can see the gardens in all the
landscape down there...would you rather sleep in a
jungle or beside the ocean??

Question #9: cell phone coverage in grand cayman islands?
i hav verizon and i was just wondering if i could
send a couple txts and make and few calls. and i'm
staying at the ritz carlton.so my phone won't work
unless i add coverage?
Answer: For verison dial from your phone*611Talk to the
Verison representative and ask them how much it
would be to increase your service so it works from
the Caribbean.I do this for Mexico and Canada all
the time.Instead of my normal 59 a month I
increase it to 79 for the month I am away. As soon
as I return I change it back again. You still
need to dial the country codes to get the US, so
if you get it, you might need to get help on what
to dial before the number. I always forgot if it
was100 or 001 or 011...It took me days to figure
it out from mexico.

Question #10: Cayman Islands info from recent travelers?
We are planning a trip to Cayman islands in Nov
and looking for tips/advice from anyone that has
been there recently. Specifically, we are
interested in info about Seven Mile Beach, cell
service (sprint phones) and damage from the 2004
hurricane. Any info would be appreciated.
Answer: My wife and I were at Grand Cayman in April 2007.
We heard great things about seven mile beach but
didn't get to see it personally. If you are the
adventurous type you have to go to Stingray City
(just google Stingray City). It is an
unforgettable experience. Several companies
provide charters to the barrier reef on your
choice of yacht, catamaran, or just a plain boat
and offer guided snorkeling with the Stingrays.
Before you freak out because of what happened to
Steve Irwin, hundreds of people swim with these
Stingrays every week. The rays have been tamed
over the decades by people coming out and feeding
them. It is a little freaky at first because they
swim around you, between your legs, and some even
try to climb on you, but overall it was a
wonderful experience. If you're looking for some
great food, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville opened
not long ago and has some wonderful food and a
laid back atmosphere. Not sure about cell service.
The wireless company in Grand Cayman is called
Cable & Wireless < http://www.cw.ky/
>. Check with your cell phone company to see
where your's will work internationally.
