Question #43: Dominican Republic-- Puerto Plata. Has anyone been to the Sun Village Resort?
Please tell me in detail how your experience was?
I am going for 7 days next week and want to know
what i'm in for!
Answer: I am a travel agent and visited the domenican
lastyear......i have to admit you have to have
lower expectations than mexico or other
destinations. It is a third world country. I'm not
saying that you won't enjoy it, just don't expect
too much. It also depends on how many other places
you have travelled to. Everybody enjoys different
things, thats why stay away from reviews......if
they are all bad than chances are its gonna be
bad, but if one person says its great...and one
hates it.....depending on how picky you are, you
might come inbetween. Have Fun!!!! It is a fun
destination.....watch out for those Dominican men
though!!!!!LOL

Question #45: Why do most people refer to Latinos as just Mexican?
I mean there are so many places Latino's come from
but from reading the answers from latino based
questions all I have seen are "There just a
bunch of mexicans." Cuba, Puerto Rico,
Dominican Republic, Colombia, ect. They are all
Latino's too. Alot of caucasian people I know get
mad if I group them as "white people."
If I call my friend Kristy Itailan when she is
Irish she is ready to drop-kick me.
Answer: That is so true. I think it is because the
majority of Latino people in America are Mexicano
and because of all the drama going on with
immigration that people group us as a whole.
Still, I can not stand when I say I am Latino and
someone says "Oh your mexican" like
there are no other Latino races out there.
Especially since I live in Texas, I am
automatically put in with Mexicans. P.S. Girl I
REALLY like your questions. Viva Puerto Rico!

Question #46: why doesn't anyone like haiti?
i went ther and just got back and it was so
beautiful. Everyone has such a distorted view of
it even though they've never been. I mean under
the carribean i don't see Haiti but I see the
Dominican Republic, and if you take a carribean
cruise, when it gets to Haiti, they don't say
Haiti(Labadee), they say "Hispaniola",
which no longer even exists. When you hear news
about Haiti, you hear it's dangerous and blah blah
blah. Everywhere has at least one spot that
dangerous. In Haiti there's just one small town
that's dangerous. That's it. One spot. I had the
best vacation of my life in Haiti, but why does
everyone hate the country and its people?I AM 100%
HAITIAN AND I KNOW ABOUT EVERYTHING THERE IS TO
KNOW ABOUT IT. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY EVERYONE
HATE MY COUNRTY AND MY PEOPLE.
Answer: I love Haiti and the people its the government
that I don't like or trust and it them that is
spoiling the beauty of the island

Question #47: Do people from the Dominican Republic and the island of Dominica both call themselves Dominicans?
Just curious. Have been to both places and never
thought about it until I noticed an answer
relating to Dominica. I always thought that
Dominican meant somebody from the Dominican
Republic without considering how citizens of
Dominica define themselves. If people from both
nations use the same term for their nationality,
how do they, and the rest of us, recognize the
difference as to which island/country is being
discussed? In person, I think it would be easier to
tell because of both language (Spanish vs English)
and pronounciation (Dominicans-DR;
Domineekans-Dominica).
Answer: Wow, great question. I have to admit I have never
thought of this. I went ahead a checked the CIA
World Factbook at it confirms both nations refer
to themselves as Dominicans. However, if someone
identifies themselves as Dominican you can
probably assume they are from Dominican Republic,
because there is about 150 times as many people
there (there are less than 70,000 people from
Dominica). There is also another important
difference in that Dominicans from Dominican
Republic speak Spanish, whereas Dominicans from
Dominica speak English or French. So perhaps they
say it differently when saying it in English
allowing for some minor difference. My guess
would be a Dominican from Dominica might define
themselves as such, to aviod confusion. Other
than that, I think it will just sort of remain
confusing.

Question #48: Puerto Rico, USVI and Dominican Republic?
Are there water taxies or affordable airlines that
travel between these 3 and that has convenient
trip schedules?
Answer: American Eagle is going to be the only way to
travel, there are no ferries. How long are you
coming down for as to do all this on a vacation
makes no sense. Your best bet is to go to the USVI
(St.Thomas) and catch the ferry over to the BVI's
or fly from San Juan to BVI's. BVI is best for
vacation. If it's business then AE will be your
only realistic way to go.

Question #49: Are all the Carribean islands effected by hurricanne season in September?
I am planning my honeymoon and want to do it at
somewhat of an all inclusive resort. Dont want to
have bad weather though, and most all inclusive
resorts are mexico/carribean/dominican republic,,,
what islands down there are out of
"hurricanne" territory during season?
Answer: Whilst all the Caribbean is considered Hurricane
Territory during the season, the further south you
go the less likely you are to be affected
(Trinidad is one of the few places you can get
year round yacht insurance without a hurricane
premium). I am not aware of either Trinidad or
Tobago having any all inclusive resorts although I
am sure Tobago will in due course (lovely island).
Off the coast of Venezuela there is the island of
Margaritta which has some all inclusive
destinations. If possible try to fly direct to
Porlamar and avoid a transfer through Caracas.
Most of all do your research to find a place you
will like and put the hurricane to chance. The
likelyhood of a direct hit is very slight.
