Question #11: My son's honeymoon scheduled for Jamaica during Dean. Sandals not allowing a reschedule beforehand. Help!
Their honeymoon is scheduled for 18 to 23 Aug at
the Sandals resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Hurricane Dean (poss cat 3-4) is due to arrive 19
Aug. Sandals will not allow a reschedule unless
their fight from the states is canceled or they
are actually present in the resort during a direct
hit from the hurricane!! With the
"Hurricane Insurance" they purchased,
unless they are present or attempt to get there it
is useless, a pricey waste. Sandals is willing to
knowingly put their guests in harm's way ...
encouraging or practically forcing their scheduled
guest to go into the hurricane's path unless they
are willing to lose all their money. I would
think at this point every attempt would be made to
keep people away from the island and the iminent
danger. Is there any recourse?
Answer: Sorry, this is a regrettable situation, but
Sandals is not obligated to do anything else...tho
it would be good for their business if they were!
Just not a good idea to book in the gulf or
Caribbean during hurricane season.

Question #12: Should we postpone our trip to Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica??
Our friends are stranded in Jamaica now b/c of the
hurricane. We will be flying out on Monday August
27th. I'm wondering if there will be too much
damage. Many people have also mentioned the
general election on the 27th and sometimes there
is violence during that time. Should we wait a
few days? This is our honeymoon and I'd rather be
safe than sorry...
Answer: The hurricane hasn't hit Jamaica yet. I would wait
on making a decision until you know what damage
has been done, it may be very minimal. I have a
trip to St. Lucia on the 29th and unless the
airport is still closed I intend to go. Most of
the damage consisted of flooding and overturned
trees, which will probably be cleared up by the
time I leave.

Question #15: Anyone here taken their young children to the Caribbean? We're thinking Dom Rep or Jamaica/similar.?
We're restricted to the summer holidays and were
going for Cyprus but for a few hundred pounds more
we can a couple of weeks All Inclusive in a 4 star
in the Dominican Republic, and a couple of hundred
pounds more for Jamaica. What I would like to know
is if you've taken young children there, if
there's enough for them to do, if you can
recommend particular areas/hotels etc. Thanks.
Answer: The carribean islands are dirty and unsafe.what
you see in the brochures are merely the
aesthetically pleasing images and are not
representative of the holiday experience as a
whole. You are advised not to leave the compounds
for fear of rape, mugging and murder. What kind of
holiday is that?

Question #16: Jamaica vacation??
Okay..I want to know...Is Jamaica the only island
in the caribbean that is "filthy and
poor" to tourists.I've been to Jamaica and
found the island to be very beautiful from the
resort to actual country itself..it's an artpiece
to me. Plus it's BOTH relaxed and party
attitutude..you can choose whichever you want to
be..But, tourist keep saying Jamaica is so
filthy..as if it's the most poor and filthy island
of the entire caribbean..People talk like they
know Jamaica like the back of there hands..saying
"Jamaica is messed up by poverty and drug
trade.." they say that as if they read that
out of a book instead of having there own
experience..It seems they have been scared to
venture out...by hear-say..I mean Jamaica is a
THIRD world country..what do people expect?What i
want to know is...Is Jamaica the most filthy and
poor island of all the caribbean b/c I don't hear
anything about any other
island...?*Jamaicans..don't get offended. I LOVE
jamaica..*
Answer: no its not that bad at all, lots of people go
their for trips, i dont ever hear people saying
that its dirty or people are mean. Or course, if i
had to choose between Tahiti or jamaica i would
b/c its less crowded and more tropical

Question #19: Sandals Resorts in Jamaica?
We're planning on staying at a Sandals resorts in
Jamaica but we're having a difficult time choosing
one. We're leaning towards the Sandals Caribbean
but there are so many choices. Any
recommendations?
Answer: My wife and I stayed at the Royal Caribbean this
past December and loved every second. There is
always plenty to do, and the staff is tremendous.
I cannot say enough about how well they treat
everyone. From hotel management down to cleaning
crew, they treat you so well. The food was not
the best I have ever had, but good nonetheless.
The bartenders are great and we met so many other
people from around the world that we still keep in
touch with. While there, we went over to the
Montego Bay resort. It is much bigger than the
Royal, but the Royal just seemed to be the best
place of the two. The reason I say that is when
you wanted to party, there was a party going on,
but when you wanted privacy it was quiet. It is
not a small resort, but it is not so large you get
lost either. Probably why the entire staff can
learn your name within 24 hours. Pretty impressive
though. Hope this helps.

Question #20: How much do bartenders make in Jamaica (a ballpark)?
I'm asking about bartenders for the resorts down
there, not the ones outside the resorts. Any info
would be appreciated.
Answer: As any bartender will tell you, it's all tips, so
the money will vary, depending on your skills!
Don't believe any particular numbers you hear, it
always varies! Of course, the particular resort
will make a difference too.
